ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Alaska Anchorage's Cody Thomas and Karolin Anders are the Day 1 leaders in the decathlon and heptathlon at the GNAC Multi-Events Championships at Tomlinson Stadium on the campus of Central Washington University.

Thomas posted the best mark in four of the five decathlon events in scoring 3,742 points Monday.  He won the 100 in a hand-held time of 10.8 before long jumping 22-4 1/2.  He then won the shot with a put of 37-10 1/2.

In the high jump, Central Washington's Justin Peterson tied the meet record clearing 6-5 1/2 as Thomas finished second with a clearance of 6-3 1/4.  Thomas then finished off his day winning the 400 in a hand-held time of 49.7.

Thomas leads Peterson by 484 points going into Tuesday's five events.  Brandon Roddewig of Central Washington is in third place with 3,244 points, 14 back of Peterson.

Anders scored 3,031 points in Monday's four heptathlon events.  She had the best mark in just one event, tossing the shot 36-0. 

Tayler Fettig of Central Washington won the high jump with a meet-record leap of 5-8 and is in second place with 2,952 points.

UAA's Rosie Smith won the other two events, running a 14.2 hand-held time in the 100 hurdles and a 25.4 hand-held time in the 200.  She is in third place with 2,778 points.

The multi-events are the first event of the GNAC Championships.  The remainder of the meet will be contested May 9-10 at Monmouth, Ore.
