Fricker Earns CoSIDA Academic All-American Honors

Fricker Selected GNAC Female Track & Field Athlete of Year
The Seattle Pacific senior won the NCAA Division II national championship in the 800 meters with a time of 2:06.18 to earn her sixth career All-American award.

Thomas, Halsell Earn Top GNAC Men's Track & Field Awards
UAA's Cody Thomas, who finished seventh at the national meet in the decathlon, was voted the Outdoor Track and Field Male Athlete of the Year. WWU's Pee Wee Halsell was voted the Coach of the Year.

WWU's Bethany Drake edged teammate Katie Reichert - by 1 inch - for the women's javelin title. Later, SPU's McKayla Fricker won the 800 in the fastest ever time by a GNAC female athlete in the national meet.

Notes From Allendale: Fricker To Get Another Shot at Carnett
McKayla Fricker had the best time in the 800 meter prelim Friday. Her time of 2:07.52 has her .14 seconds ahead of Shawnee Carnett, who beat Fricker for the NCAA 800 indoor title by half a second in March.

UAA's Anders, Thomas; WWU's Stein T&F All-Americans
Karolin Anders finished second in the heptathlon with 5,375 points, Katelyn Stein placed fourth in the women's steeplechase in a time of 10:20.66 and Cody Thomas finished seventh in the decathlon.

Maybe Katelyn Steen was born to be a steeplechaser. She certainly has looked like it recently, winning the GNAC title and, on Thursday, earning the top seed in the finals of that grueling, 3,000-meter race at the NCAAs.

Karolin Anders high jumped a school-record 5-8 in netting a career-best Day 1 point total of 3,236. Cody Thomas scored 3,929 points and is on pace to crack the 7,000 point mark in the decathlon.

CWU's Kelly Shreve and MSUB's Jinise Osborne led the women with 4.00 GPAs. SMU's Joe Berger led the USA men with a 3.99 GPA. SFU's Lorenzo Smith posted a 4.22 GPA in the Canadian system.
