PORTLAND, Ore. – In the first NCAA men’s soccer West Region rankings of 2013 released Wednesday, Simon Fraser appeared at No. 4 while Seattle Pacific occupied the No. 6 spot.

With no automatic berths to the West Region tournament, the top six teams in the final West Region poll will earn bids to compete in the Division II playoffs. Simon Fraser won the West Region tournament a season ago, and advanced to the national semifinals before falling to national runner-up Saginaw Valley State.

SFU (11-1-1, 7-1-1 GNAC) is amongst NCAA leaders in offense, ranking in the top-5 in total goals, total points, scoring offense, total assists, and points per game.

SPU (8-1-3, 6-0-3) has not lost since its first match of the season, and is currently just one point behind SFU in the GNAC standings. The Falcons are one of the top teams in the nation defensively, ranking No. 15 in goals-against average (.71) and No. 30 in save percentage (.813).

SFU Ranked In NSCAA Top-5

Simon Fraser fell just one spot in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll, released Tuesday. The Clan has spent just one week outside of the top-5, peaking with a three-week stretch as the No. 1 ranked team and falling as low as No. 9. None of the three teams ranked ahead of SFU in the West Region poll are ranked ahead of SFU in the NSCAA poll.
