GNAC Cross Country Roundup (Sept 24)

Colorado Mines easily outdistanced Division I Gonzaga to win the men's team title Saturday in the Runners Soul Erik Anderson Cross Country Invitational at the Plantes Ferry Soccer Complex in Spokane, Wash.

The race was held at the site of this year's NCAA Division II national and West Regional meets.

The Orediggers finished with 27 team points. Gonzaga had 96. Lewis-Clark State finished third with 178, three ahead of Western Washington and six ahead of Western Oregon.

Washington State and Gonzaga finished 1-2 in the women's race with team scores of 21 and 114. Western Washington was the top Division II finisher placing third with 133 points.

Sean Gildea of Colorado Mines won the men's 8,000-meter race in a time of 24:04 finishing just 16 seconds ahead of second-place Barak Watson of Northwest Nazarene.

NNU had two of the top three GNAC finishers as Jesse Baggenstos placed 14th in a time of 25:05. Kyle Van Santen of Saint Martin's finished second among GNAC runners and fifth overall in a time of 24:35.

Washington State's Ruby Roberts finished first in the women's 6,000 meters in a time of 20:54. Natty Plunkett was the top GNAC finisher placing eighth in a time of 21:56.

SFU's Smith Finishes 22nd at Stanford

Jessica Smith finished 22nd for Simon Fraser's top finish Saturday in the Stanford Invitational. Smith covered the 6,000 meter course in a time of 21:22.

SFU's women placed 16th and its men finished 19th in the invitational. The Clan's top men's finisher was William Cunliffe who was 89th in a time of 25:38.

Saint Martin's Women Finish Second at Invitational

Victoria swept the team titles Saturday in the Saint Martin's Invitational held on the SMU campus. The Canadian school posted perfect scores of 15 in both events.

The host Saints finished second in the women's division and third in the men's division. Western Washington, which had all its top runners competing in Spokane, still managed to earn a second-place finish in the men's race.
