Alaska Anchorage posted convincing wins over their counterparts from Slippery Rock in the Seawolves' season-opening meet Thursday afternoon at Kincaid Park in Anchorage.

UAA's Ruth Keino won the women's five-kilometer event in 18 minutes, 00 seconds to lead the Seawolves to a perfect score 15-48 win over The Rock women.

Meanwhile the Seawolves' Micah Chelimo toured the same course in 15:09 to lead the UAA men to a 16-46 win.

The Seawolf women, which was ranked No. 5 nationally in a preseason poll, went 1-2-3-4-5 in it's victory.

Keino, UAA's 2011 Athlete of the Year, was followed in order by Susan Bick (18:46), Bryn Haebe (18:56), Miriam Kipng'eno (18:59) and Shoshana Keegan (19:01).

The UAA men, ranked No. 12 nationally in a preseason poll, went 1-2-3-4 in it's win over SLU. The Seawolves' Alfred Kangogo was second in 15:29, Yonatan Yilma was third in 15:34 and Dylan Anthony placed fourth in 15:41.

Falcons, Nanooks Record Cross Country Victories

Seattle Pacific's men and Alaska Fairbanks' women earned team wins Thursday in the UAF Cross Country Invitational at the UAF West Ridge Trails.

The Falcon men placed three runners in the Top 4 in outpointing MSU Billings 27-37. The Nanooks finished third with 59 team points.

UAF won the women's race with 33 team points compared to 42 by SPU and 51 by MSUB.

Individual winners included MSUB's Brian Potter in a time of 26:16.4 and SPU's Natty Plunkett in a time of 22:59.5.
