MSUB, SPU Win on OT Goals

Garion Holian ripped a shot from eight yards out just inside the far right post in the 100th minute as Montana State Billings defeated Northwest Nazarene 4-3 Saturday at Nampa.

Seattle Pacific also got a game-ending goal by Tyler Schultz in overtime to beat Western Washington 2-1.

Meanwhile, league champion Simon Fraser (16-0, 9-0) stayed perfect defeating Saint Martin's 5-0.

The Yellowjackets (7-8-2, 3-5-2) led 3-1 at halftime, but Northwest Nazarene (6-10-1, 1-9-0) got goals from Christian Adamson in the 50th minute and from Stephen Marshall on a penalty kick at 77:36 to force the extra period. Marshall also had a penalty kick goal in the first half.

In the overtime period, MSUB goalie Eoin Hurley made a great save on a shot by John DiLulo in the 97th minute. Three minutes later Holian ended the contest with his second goal of the game. He also scored in the fourth minute.

“Two factors in the overtime for us were Eoin making a fantastic save and then two minutes later the ball went up to Garion and he scored a great goal,” MSUB coach Dan McNally said.

Hurley finished the contest with four saves as NNU outshot MSUB 13-10. The Crusaders also had a 5-3 corner kick advantage.

Schultz scored on a six-yard header with 46 seconds left in the first overtime lifting Seattle Pacific to its win at Interbay Stadium.

The goal came on the first shot of overtime by the Falcons (12-3-2, 6-2-1), who swept the season series from Western Washington (5-10-0, 3-6-0).

The winning goal came after Danny Brill collected the ball near midfield and fed a pass to Caleb Nyone who floated the ball toward the Vikings' goal.

Schultz sprinted into the box and nodded the ball over goalkeeper Keegan Rogers and into the center of the goal at 99:14.

The seventh game-winner of the season by Schultz gave him a league-leading 14 goals. He moved into the No. 10 spot among all-time Falcons with his 36th career goal.

Rogers was credited with 10 saves for WWU, which was outshot 23-8. SPU goalkeeper Zach Johnson stopped two shots, one of them coming in the third minute of overtime that denied an dangerous effort by Tye Hastings.

SPU got the lone first-half goal, at 36:24. A long through pass from Christopher Morris freed Ryan Brand in the right side of the box.

He veered toward the goal before unleashing a 20-yard blast from a sharp angle that deflected off the goalkeeper before sneaking inside the right post.

The Vikings got the equalizer at 65:11 off a set piece from the right flank. Oscar Jimenez sent a free kick to the near side that Kellan Brown headed inside the right post for his seventh goal of the season.

Simon Fraser scored four first-half goals including three in a 2 minute, 22 second span in defeating Saint Martin's (5-10-2, 4-4-1).

Juan Sanchez had an assisted goal at 15:21. That was quickly followed by a goal by Chris Bargholz at 16:04.

Farhad Abdulgani, who earned an assist on Bargholz's goal, made it 3-0 at 17:43 as Bargholz got an assist.

SFU made it 4-0 scoring with two seconds left in the first half on a goal by Jovan Blagojevic off an assist by Max Baessato.

Carlo Basso earned his 13th goal of the season to complete the scoring in the second half converting a cross from Joseph Martin.

Simon Fraser finished the contest with a 22-4 advantage in shots and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
