MSUB Earns Tie with No. 17 SPU

Seattle Pacific dominated the shot count Thursday, but was unable to get one in the goal and settled for a 0-0 tie against Montana State Billings in a GNAC game at Yellowjacket Field.

The 17th ranked Falcons (8-2-2), who have lost just once in their last 10 outings, fell to 3-1-1 in conference play. MSUB (5-7-1, 1-4-1) extended its unbeaten streak to four games (3-0-1) with the draw.

"We just weren't quite sharp enough, weren't patient enough to put a ball in the back of the net," said SPU coach Mark Collings. "We thought we had one, but it got called offside."

SPU controlled the run of play and attempted 22 shots to only seven for the Yellowjackets. The Falcons had a 6-1 advantage in shots directly on goal.

SPU Zach Johnson needed just one save to register his third straight shutout. Johnson has blanked seven opponents this season, increasing his career shutout total to 12. He has not surrendered a goal in the last 307 minutes and saw his season goals against average drop to 0.89.

Eoin Hurley made four of his six saves during the second half for MSUB, which was outshot 10-3 during that period.

"We defended really well," MSUB coach Dan McNally said. I thought Eoin had a great game in goal for us; his best game of the season.

"Connor Moe and Isaac Kerr were outstanding along the back line, and the whole team played with a lot of concentration."

In Thursday's only other game, Saint Martin's (4-7-1, 3-2-0) got a goal from Xan Nixon in the 27th minute to defeat Northwest Nazarene 1-0. Nixon scored on a header. Blake Moreland earned an assist.

Saint Martin's took seven shots in the contest, while the Crusaders (5-7-1, 0-6-0) had five, all of them by Alex Mangeac. Saint goalie JJ Olson had two saves; Zander Engeman had three for the Crusaders.
