PORTLAND, Ore. – Continuing a course of success both in his running and in the classroom, Alaska Anchorage’s Coleman Nash has been recognized as the Division II Conference Commissioners Association’s (D2CCA) 2021-22 West Region Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

A two-time All-American and two-time conference champion last year, Nash was one of eight men’s regional award winners and 16 overall winners recognized by the association, which honors the top scholar-athletes from each Division II region.

Nash, who has maintained a 4.0 GPA as a finance major, put together a great resume of success last season. Competing in his first collegiate cross country season, Nash placed second at the GNAC Championships and fifth at the NCAA West Regional. He was the only GNAC cross country runner to earn All-American honors, placing 27th, and was one of five freshmen to finish in the top 30. Nash won his first three collegiate races and did not finish out of the top five until the Division II Championships.

During the indoor track and field season, Nash placed second in both the 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters at the GNAC Championships, earning USTFCCCA All-West Region honors in both events. His season-best of 14:29.18 in the 5,000 meters ranks No. 9 on the GNAC all-time list.

During the outdoor track and field season, Nash captured conference championships in both the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters. An all-region selection in both events, Nash placed eighth in the 5,000 meters at the Division II Championships to earn his second All-America trophy of the season.

For his academic and athletic efforts, Nash was named in June as the 2021-22 GNAC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

So far during the 2022-23 season, Nash earned cross country race victories at the Blue/Gold Invite and the Seawolf Throwdown. He placed second at the Bill Roe Classic and was the top collegiate finisher in the race. Nash was named earlier this week to the GNAC Cross Country All-Academic Team and was one of seven honorees with a 4.0 GPA.
