Central's Jones Leads All-Academic Volleyball Team
Wednesday, November 2, 2016 PORTLAND, Ore. – A solid performer both on the court and in the classroom, Central Washington senior outside hitter Kiah Jones leads 47 selections to the 2016 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Volleyball All-Academic Team.
Jones has the top grade point average on the squad with a 3.94 GPA as a major in biology molecular and cellular. On the court, the two-time Honorable Mention All-GNAC selection has started all 22 matches for the Wildcats and is averaging 2.64 kills and 1.75 digs per set.
Jones, who also had the highest GPA on the Volleyball All-Academic Team in 2015, is one of 20 repeat selections to the team and five three-time selections. Joining Jones as a three-time selection is Alaska’s Meagan Olsen, Alaska Anchorage’s Erin Braun, Central Washington’s Jordan Deming and Western Oregon’s Christie Colasurdo.
The CWU player also tops a list of five GNAC volleyball players with a 3.80 GPA or higher. Jones is joined by Alaska Amchorage’s Chrisalyn Johnson, Northwest Nazarene’s Shayli Siegfreid, Saint Martin’s Jennifer Codd, Seattle Pacific's Symone Tran, Simon Fraser’s Christine Howlett and Western Oregon's Amanda Short.
Saint Martin’s leads all team with eight selections to the team, including three repeat selections. Western Oregon finished with seven selections and Central Washington landed six selections.
To be eligible for selection to the GNAC Volleyball All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must be a sophomore standing or higher, have competed at the nominating institution for at least one year and have a cumulative 3.20 grade point average or higher.
