Simon Fraser completed is first unbeaten season in school history Sunday defeating Fort Hays State 2-1 in a neutral site game at Sioux Falls, S.D.

The only blemish on SFU's near-perfect 18-0-1 campaign was a 2-2 tie earlier this week at Western Washington.

In Sunday's only other game, Montana State Billings got two goals from defenders and the game-winner from senior Tyler Moriarty in defeating intra-city rival Rocky Mountain 3-2 at Yellowjacket Field in its final game of the 2011 season.

Simon Fraser broke a 1-1 tie with 3:57 remaining in regulation on a penalty kick goal by Josh Bennett. The kick was awarded after Chris Bargholz was pulled down in the box after making a fantastic run towards the Fort Hays goalkeeper.

Simon Fraser's first goal came in the 23rd minute on a header from Carlo Basso off a cross from Bargholz. The goal was Basso's league-leading 16th of the season.

Fort Hays State (11-5-2) got the equalizer in the 63rd minute on a goal by Patrick Brennan. SFU outshot Fort Hays 16-10 and also had a 10-1 corner kick advantage.

MSUB finished its season at .500 with an 8-8-2 record. The Yellowjackets were 2-7-0 just five weeks ago and finished the second half of the season 6-1-2.

“I thought we controlled the game today and deserved to win,” MSUB coach Dan McNally, who recorded his 60th career victory, said. “We missed a PK and they scored off of two deflections, which kept it close. I'm very happy with our season and the great run we had in our last nine games.”

All the scoring came in the second half as Rocky took the lead in the 51st when Oliver Gore took the ball off a deflected pass and cracked a shot from 32 yards out, bending it just inside the far right post.

MSUB, which outshot the Bears 14-6, got the equalizer at 57:14 as Thomas Chameraud sent a free kick from 38 yards out into the top of the six-yard box where freshman Isaac Kerr was positioned for the header just over Rocky goalie Sean Flynn's outstretched arms.

The Yellowjackets took the lead in the 67th minute as Thomas Sheets connected with Conner Moe on a cross that Moe finished with a shot into a wide-open left side of the goal.

Gore leveled the match in the 77th minute as he took a free kick from the far corner of the 18-yard box and placed it perfectly into the right corner of the goal.

But Moriarty got the game-winner in the 81st minute when Chameraud took a corner kick on the far side and found Moriarty in the box where he sent a header on goal and the ball deflected off the crossbar and just over the line. The assist was Chameraud's second of the day and team-leading seventh of the year.
