INDIANAPOLIS – Following an 18-2-0 regular season and a GNAC Championships win, Western Washington has earned the No. 3 seed in the West Region of the 2019 NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Championship.

The Vikings will face the No. 6 seed in the region, Stanislaus State, at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, California. The date and time of the match is to be announced. The winner will advance to play the winner between the No. 2 seeded Seawolves and No. 7 seed Cal State LA.

Western Washington is in the NCAA Division II Championship for the eighth consecutive year and the 10th time in the program’s GNAC history. The 2016 national champions, the Vikings have advanced to the West Region title match each of the last four years.

With an 18-2-0 overall record, Western Washington earned the conference’s automatic berth to the Division II Championships following an unblemished 12-0-0 regular season and a pair of 2-1 victories over Central Washington and Seattle Pacific in the GNAC Championships. After a 4-2 start in non-conference play, the Vikings have won their last 14 matches. In that stretch, WWU has outscored its opponents by a 49-5 margin. Overall, the Vikings have outscored their opponents 55-8 and have limited foes to 6.9 shots per match.

The Vikings enter the tournament ranked eighth in Division II in both goals against average (.0.39) and shutout percentage (.650), ninth in total assists (46), 11th in assists per match (2.30), points per match (7.80) and total points (156); and rank 14th in scoring offense (2.75 goals per match).

UC San Diego is the overall No. 1 seed in the region in its final year in Division II. Earning the opening-round bye, the Tritons will face the winner of the first-round match between No. 4 Cal Poly Pomona and No. 5 Point Loma.
