![]() Western Washington sophomore Aidan Thain led GNAC golfers at the Dennis Rose Invitational with a third-place finish. Friday, November 1, 2019 PORTLAND, Ore. – The GNAC men’s golf fall season concluded on Wednesday with three teams competing at the Dennis Rose Invitational at the Waikoloa Kings’ Course in Waikoloa, Hawaii. Concordia and Western Washington led the conference with the two teams finishing tied for fourth place with scores of 885. Saint Martin’s finished three strokes behind the Cavaliers and Vikings to place seventh. Western Washington sophomore Aidan Thain paced the Vikings and topped the GNAC field, placing third with a score of 3-under-par 213 over three rounds. Junior Brody Bonfilio and senior Ethan Casto also performed well for the Vikings, finishing tied for 24th with scores of 8-over-par 224. Concordia senior Jaxson Daskalos and Saint Martin’s sophomore Max Turnquist also represented the conference in the top-10. Daskalos finished tied for sixth place with a score of 1-over-par 217 while Turnquist tied for ninth with a score of 3-over-par 219. Casto was also the top performer at the Otter Invitational on Oct. 21-22 at the Bayonet and Blackhorse Golf Courses in Seaside, California, leading the Vikings with a score of 2-under-par 214 to finish tied for third place. No other GNAC players placed in the top-30. All six GNAC teams have concluded their fall seasons. Golf will be back in action for the spring season in February. AROUND THE GNAC • Senior Jaxson Daskalos paced the Cavaliers, finishing tied for sixth place with a score of 1-over-par 217. He shot a 73 in the first round then posted a 72 in both the second and third rounds. • Freshman Jorgen Viken placed in the top-15 at the Dennis Rose Invitational, finishing tied for 13th place with a score of 4-over-par 220. Viken had a low round of 71 in the second round. Freshman Viktor Olund also impressed, finishing tied for 24th with a score of 8-over-par 224. MONTANA STATE BILLINGS NORTHWEST NAZARENE • Senior Henry Bernard had the best individual performance for the Nighthawks, finishing tied for 48th with a score of 231. Junior Isaac Emerson finished tied for 54th with a score of 232. SAINT MARTIN’S • Sophomore Max Turnquist led the Saints, finishing tied for ninth place with a score of 3-over-par 219. His best round at the tournament was a 71 in the second round. • Sophomore Dennis Geissler finished in 16th place with a score of 5-over-par 221 while junior Tyler Fitchett also impressed, finishing tied for 24th with a score of 8-over-par 224. SIMON FRASER WESTERN WASHINGTON • Senior Ethan Casto shined at the Otter Invitational, finishing tied for third place with a score of 2-under-par 214, which included a low score of 69 in the first round. Sophomore Aidan Thain also performed well for the Vikings, finishing tied for 34th with a score of 10-over-par 226. • Thain was the top performer for the Vikings at the Dennis Rose Invitational, finishing in third place with a score of 3-under-par 213. He shot under par in the second and third rounds to edge out UC-San Diego’s Hayden Hui by one stroke to finish in third. • Casto and junior Brody Bonfilio tied for 24th place with scores of 8-over-par 224. Bonfilio turned in an 82 in the first round but bounced back and shot a 68 in the second round to keep pace with the rest of the field. |
