PORTLAND, Ore. – Maintain a top-notch grade point average and keep up with the responsibilities of a student-athlete is a tall task at a top research school like Simon Fraser, but junior Laura Jones has done just that to lead 15 selections to the 2018-19 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Women’s Golf All-Academic Team.

Jones, one of eight repeat selections to the team, has a 3.98 cumulative GPA as a health sciences major. She has been a key part of a Simon Fraser squad that aims to repeat as champions at next week’s GNAC Women’s Golf Championships. In 12 tournaments, Jones owns an 85.3 stroke average and will be among the Clan’s lineup in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho on Monday and Tuesday.

Jones is one of four student-athletes on the team with GPAs or 3.70 or better. She is joined by Concordia sophomore Kendall Freeman, who has a 3.83 as a biology major; Simon Fraser sophomore Estee Leung, who has a 3.92 as a biomedical physiology major; and Western Washington senior Hannah Drake, who has a 3.72 as a kinesiology major.

Drake is one of three players who are three-time selections to the All-Academic Team. She is joined by Montana State Billings’ senior Shelayn Hafer and Northwest Nazarene senior Stephanie Miller.

Montana State Billings led all schools with four selections to the All-Academic Team.

Selections to the GNAC All-Academic Teams must be of sophomore standing or greater, have a 3.20 cumulative grade point average or better and be in their second season of competition at the nominating institution.
