PORTLAND, Ore. – Balancing three majors in the natural sciences along with being a student-athlete? For Simon Fraser’s Mackenzie Field, the balance has hardly been a problem.

The senior from Christina Lake, B.C., headlines 14 selections to the 2015-16 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Women’s Golf All-Academic Team. Field has compiled a 4.17 cumulative grade point average in the Canadian system that awards a 4.33 for an A-plus, and she has done so as a triple major in molecular biology, biochemistry and chemistry.

Field was one of three student-athletes on the team to compile a 3.80 grade point average or better. Joining her is Montana State Billings sophomore Bailee Dexter, who has a 3.91 grade point average as an English major, and Saint Martin’s senior Jennifer Liedes, who has a 3.80 grade point average as a business major. Liedes tied for first at the GNAC Championships, falling in a one-hole playoff to Simon Fraser’s Michelle Waters, and set a tournament record with her second round score of even-par 71.

Saint Martin’s, which finished third at the GNAC Championships, leads the All-Academic Team with five selections. The Saints also had five selections on the Men’s Golf All-Academic Team.

Fields is one of eight repeat selections to the team and one of three earning selection in three consecutive years, joining Saint Martin’s Grace Dyer and Sarah Salvatori. Salvatori tied for seventh at the GNAC Championships while Dyer tied for 28th. Two-time selections include Montana State Billings’ Haley Shackelford, Northwest Nazarene’s Carleigh Sturm, Saint Martin’s Liedes and Chloe Read and Western Washington’s Brooke Branigan. All but Read competed for their respective teams at the GNAC Championships.

To be selected to the GNAC All-Academic Teams, a player must be of sophomore standing, must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better and must be in their second season of competition at their current school.
