PORTLAND, Ore. – With one month left on the Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s golf calendar before the conference championships, Western Washington holds a two-stroke lead in the team race with an average score of 318.2.

Getting set for its first action since September, Montana State Billings is currently in second place after averaging  a score of 320.1 during the fall season. MSUB will host the Yellowjacket Spring Invitational this weekend, with action set for Thursday and Friday at Pryor Creek Golf Course in Huntley, Mont.

Leading MSUB through its first nine rounds of the 2013-14 season are Katie Fish and Capri Ingram, who rank third and fourth in the GNAC with average rounds of 78.9 and 79.6, respectively. 

The ‘Jackets face a quick turn around, traveling to Seaside, Calif., on Monday for the Cal State Monterey Bay Invitational. Western Washington and Saint Martin’s return to action March 31 at the Western New Mexico Invitational in Goodyear, Ariz., and NNU returns to the greens that weekend as well as it hosts the NNU Invitational in Nampa.

RECAP

Northwest Nazarene placed second among an eight-team field at the Corban Invitational March 17-18, as freshman Samantha Miller finished second overall with a three-round score of 251 (79-87-85). Miller also paced all scorers with a 77 in NNU’s victory over the College of Idaho in a dual match on March 7.

Three schools represented the GNAC at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout March 1-2 at Hiddenbrooke Golf Club in Vallejo, Calif., with WWU finishing at 654 (333-321) for third place. Saint Martin’s logged a 679 (341-338) to finish seventh and Simon Fraser was right behind in eighth with a 702 (368-334).

Kristen Hansen of WWU and Jennifer Liedes of SMU were the conference’s top finishers at the Pioneer Shootout, as each carded a 161 over the two rounds. SFU was led by Nicky Jordan at the event, who scored a 168 (89-79) to tie for 19th place.

Liedes was also SMU’s top golfer at the Augustana Spring Fling March 13-14, carding another 161 (74-87) en route to an 18th-place finish.
