PORTLAND, Ore. – Three Simon Fraser players, including GNAC Player of the Year Michael Winter, have earned NCAA Division II first team All-American honors.

Winter and  forward Carlo Basso, who led the conference in scoring with 35 points (14 goals, 7 assists), earned National Soccer Coaches Association of America first team honors, while defender Matt Besuschko was a Daktronics first team selection.  The Daktronics team is selected by the nation’s sports information directors.

Winter, who also earned Daktronics second team All-American honors, tallied 12 points (5 goals, 2 assists) from his midfield position and was a key contributor defensively along with Besuschko and Helge Neumann to the Clan defense that ranked 13th nationally in goals against average (0.76).  Neumann was a second team NSCAA All-American pick.

Joining Besuschko and Winter on the Daktronics team was Seattle Pacific defender Jon Pearman, who earlier was voted the GNAC Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.  Pearman was a second team selection.

Basso, Winter, Neumann and Pearman also earned NSCAA first team West Region all-star honors.  Named to the Daktronics first team all-region squad were Basso, Winter, Pearman, Besuschko and  midfielders Thomas Chameraud of Montana State Billings and Ryan Dhillon of Simon Fraser were Daktronics first team all-region selections.

Simon Fraser coach Alan Koch, who led the Clan (19-2-1) to the GNAC and West Region titles and to a berth in the NCAA Division II Final Four, was voted the NSCAA West Region Coach of the Year.
