PORTLAND, Ore. – Golf is as mentally-grueling as sports get, but that doesn’t stop Simon Fraser’s Ryan Stolys from perfecting his craft both on the course and in the classroom as the sophomore leads the 13 selections to the 2019-20 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Men’s Golf All-Academic Team.

Stolys boasts a 4.00 cumulative grade point average as an engineering science major. A Second Team All-GNAC selection this year, Stolys finished seventh in the conference with a 72.7 stroke average over 12 rounds, carding seven rounds of par or below. He placed in the top-10 twice and in the top-five once, finishing in fourth place at September’s Saint Martin’s Invitational with a three-round score of 10-under-par 206 to pace the Clan to a team victory to open the fall season.

Stolys is one of six selections with a 3.70 GPA or better. Joining him are Concordia senior Jaxson Daskalos and junior Luke Travins; and Northwest Nazarene juniors Andrew Cortez, Isaac Emerson and Tyler Joplin.

Northwest Nazarene led all programs with four All-Academic selections while Concordia had three. Of the 13 selections, seven are repeat selections.

The GNAC All-Academic Teams honor excellence in the classroom while committing to the rigor of being part of a collegiate athletic program. Nominees must be of sophomore eligibility or greater, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.20 or greater, be a letterwinner on their team and must be in their second season at the nominating institution.
