Western Oregon Joins Seattle Pacific in NCAA Tournament

NCAA West Regional (March 13-16 at Azusa, Calif.): Friday - #3 Cal Baptist (24-6) vs. #6 Chico State (22-7), noon; #2 BYU-Hawaii (24-5) vs. #7 Seattle Pacific (23-7), 2:30 p.m.; #4 Dixie State (20-7) vs. #5 Cal Poly Pomona (23-6), 5 p.m.; #1 Azusa Pacific (24-5) vs. #8 Western Oregon (23-6), 7:30 p.m. Saturday - Semifinals at 5 and 7:30 p.m.  Monday - Championship game at 7 p.m.  

PORTLAND, Ore. - GNAC regular-season champion Western Oregon will join GNAC tournament champion Seattle Pacific in this week's NCAA Division II West Regional.  The regional will be played starting Friday in Azusa, Calif.

The Wolves are the eighth-seed and will take on host and top-seed Azusa Pacific in Friday's final game at 7:30 p.m. 

Earlier in the day, seventh-seed Seattle Pacific, playing in its 11th consecutive regional, will face second-seed BYU-Hawaii which defeated California Baptist 84-79 Saturday to win the PacWest title.  CBU is the No. 3 seed.  SPU's regional streak is the longest in Division II.  The game will tip-off at 2:30 p.m.

Friday's other first-round games will pit fourth-seed Dixie State and fifth-seed Cal Poly Pomona at 5 p.m. and Cal Baptist and sixth-seed Chico State at noon.  Cal Poly Pomona won the CCAA post-season tournament.

The three tournament champions earned automatic berths into the 64-team, eight-region field, while the other five teams, including Western Oregon, were awarded at-large berths. 

Start times for each of the four quarterfinal games in the West Region will be announced.

The West Region champion earns a trip to the Elite Eight at the Forc Center in Evansville, Ind.  The national quarterfinals will be played March 25 with the semifinals set for March 26.  The NCAA Division II championship game will be televised live by CBS on March 28 at noon Pacific time.

CCAA: Thursday - #3 Humboldt State 92, #6 CSU San Bernardino 87 (ot); #4 Cal State Stanislaus 61, #5 UC San Diego 46.  Friday - #1 Chico State 72, CSU Stanislaus 60; #2 Cal Poly Pomona 78, Humboldt State 68.  Saturday - Cal Poly Pomona 62, Chico State 57 (ot).

PacWest: Thursday - #3 California Baptist 99, #6 Hawaii Pacific 88; #4 BYU-Hawaii 74, #5 Point Loma 49.  Friday - BYU-Hawaii 98, Dixie State 75; California Baptist 78, #2 Azusa Pacific 67.  Saturday - BYU-Hawaii 84, California Baptist 79.
