RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – After being named West Region Player of the Year, Simon Fraser’s Adam Jones was named to the 2016 Division II Conference Commissioners Association Men’s Soccer All-America First Team, becoming the first GNAC player to earn the honor since 2013.
One of the two GNAC players to earn the honor in 2013 was Simon Fraser’s then-freshman Magnus Kristensen, who earns Second Team All-American recognition this year.
The GNAC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year both helped Simon Fraser to a 14-1-3 record in the 2016 season, earning the top seed in the NCAA West Regional tournament.
Adam Jones tallied 10 goals and nine assists on the season and recorded a hat trick in the regular-season finale. Kristensen was a key figure in the Clan defense, which recorded nine shutouts on the season, limiting opposing offenses to just 6.83 shots per match.
Simon Fraser has now placed a total of four players on the D2CCA First Team All-American. Joining Jones and Kristensen, Chris Bargholz also did so in 2013, and the year before Matt Besuschko also earned the honor.
In the NSCAA All-American teams, Jones was again selected to the first team.
