PORTLAND, Ore. – Montana State Billings director of athletics Michael Bazemore has been selected to serve a four-year term on the NCAA Division II Membership Committee.

“I’m extremely excited for this appointment and the opportunity to serve on the Division II Membership Committee,” Bazemore said. “Having served as a liaison to this committee when I was on the staff at the NCAA national office, it’s cool to be able to continue this work in a different capacity. I am passionate about Division II and helping to keep our membership strong.”

The Membership Committee reviews and considers issues pertaining to Division II membership requirements and membership compliance issues. The committee establishes policies and procedures for prospective member institutions and conferences to achieve membership status in Division II and has the authority to approve or deny a prospective member’s request for membership.

The committee also handles NCAA Convention tasks related to Division II business, which include examining the credentials of Division II delegates. The committee also has the authority to conduct an audit of an institution’s fulfillment of membership requirements if the institution is placed on probation for failure to fulfill more than one membership requirement during a 10-year period.

This is the third NCAA committee that Bazemore has served on as an administrator. He was a member of the Minority Opportunities and Interest Committee from 2016 to 2020 and on the Division II Culture of Compliance Think Tank Committee from 2016 to 2018.

Entering his third year as Montana State Billings’ director of athletics, Bazemore served in administrative roles at Truman State University and Metropolitan State University of Denver and spent from 2018 to 2021 as the assistant director of academic and membership affairs at the NCAA National Office.

From 2012 to 2016, Bazemore served MSUB in a variety of roles, including assistant director of operations and media relations and as compliance director.

Bazemore earned his master’s degree in sports, recreation and fitness management from Montana State Billings in 2016. He earned bachelor’s degrees in interdisciplinary studies in social science and in sociology from Michigan State, where he was four-year letterwinner on the football team.
