PORTLAND, Ore. – Dr. Deborah Narang, the faculty athletics representative at the University of Alaska Anchorage, has been named to the NCAA Division II Academic Requirements Committee.

Narang was appointed to the committee in March to fill an immediate vacancy on the committee. Her term on the committee expires in August 2026.

“Having student-athletes who enter college prepared for college success, make progress towards their degrees, graduate and prepare for future careers is at the heart of what we do in NCAA sports,” Narang said. “I am delighted to participate on the Division II Academic Requirements Committee to support those goals.”

The Academic Requirements Committee is charged with reviewing the division’s academic standards and recommending policy and legislation regarding initial eligibility, progress towards degree and transfer requirements.

The committee also reviews and establishes procedures for considering waivers on initial eligibility and progress toward degree requirements, monitors procedures for gathering data on membership graduation rates and reports the findings from the study of such rates and makes recommendations when appropriate regarding relationships among its Association and its members, the secondary-school community and two-year college.

Narang has served as Alaska Anchorage’s faculty athletics representative for the last 10 years and has served on the university’s Intercollegiate Athletics Board since 2008. She has also served as president of both the UAA Faculty Senate and the UAA Assembly.

Narang has been a member of the faculty at Alaska Anchorage since 1995. She received her Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of New Hampshire in 1994. Narang earned her master’s degree from Ohio State in 1995 and her bachelor’s degree from Capital University in 1993, both in mathematics.
