PORTLAND, Ore. – Central Washington’s Isabel Womack hasn’t just been hanging K’s on the scoreboard this season.

The graduate student pitcher from Hillsboro, Oregon has also been leading the way in the classroom and headlines the 65 selections GNAC 2023 Softball All-Academic Team, presented by Barnes & Noble College, with a 4.0 grade point average.

Womack, who is doing her graduate studies in education curriculum and instruction, owns a 7-8 record and a 4.55 ERA in the circle with 20 starts and 21 total appearances. She also ranks eighth in the conference with 83 strikeouts, averaging 6.29 per game.

The GNAC All-Academic Team features 35 repeat honorees, including 16 three-time and six four-time selections. Womack is one of those six four-time selections to the GNAC All-Academic Team members along with Montana State Billings senior Alyssa Etheridge and junior Payton Meyer, Western Oregon seniors Maddie Brandner and Logan Carlos and Western Washington senior Rachel Christensen.

Etheridge has been the top pitcher for the Yellowjackets and ranks ninth in the GNAC with a 3.12 ERA. She leads the GNAC with 27 appearances and 22 complete games. Her 22 starts also rank second in the conference while her 113 strikeouts rank fourth.  Etheridge owns a 3.42 GPA as a senior health and human performance major.

Meyer earned GNAC All-Academic recognition with a 3.30 GPA as a junior majoring in health and human performance. She has started all but six of MSUB’s 42 games this season.

Brandner owns a .283 batting average in 24 games for Western Oregon this year. She has been strong defensively for the Wolves in the infield, ranking third on the team and tied for 12th in the GNAC with 124 putouts. Brandner earned her fourth GNAC All-Academic honors with a 3.52 GPA as an exercise science major.  

Carlos joins Brandner on the All-Academic Team for the fourth time with a 3.72 GPA while majoring in communication. Carlos has been one of the best hitting players for Western Oregon, ranking third for the Wolves with a .238 batting average. She has started 41 of WOU’s 46 games. 

Western Washington’s Christensen rounds out the four-time All-Academic selections with a 3.27 GPA as a physical education and health major. She has appeared in 27 of the Vikings’ 43 games this season and ranks third on the team with 89 putouts.

Central Washington leads all eight GNAC programs with 16 honorees, followed by Western Oregon with 11. Montana State Billings and Saint Martin’s each have 10 All-Academic selections.

To qualify for the GNAC All-Academic Teams, nominees must be of sophomore eligibility of greater, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.20 or greater on a 4.00 scale, be on the team roster for the full season and must be in their second year at the nominating institution.
