PORTLAND, Ore. – A trio of 4.0 performers in the classroom leads the 55 selections to the 2022 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer All-Academic Team, presented by Barnes & Noble College.

The three are led by Seattle Pacific senior midfielder Tyler Speer, who has a 4.0 GPA as a biochemistry major. Speer has started in nine of the Falcons’ 11 matches this season with a goal and two assists to his credit.

Northwest Nazarene junior goalkeeper Sawyer Price has a 4.00 GPA as a sports management major. He has played in all but 20 minutes in goal for the Nighthawks this season, compiling a 6-2-1 record and a 1.25 goals against average.

Montana State Billings sophomore defender Jack Jarrett holds a 4.0 GPA as a chemistry major. Jack has started all eight matches for the Yellowjackets this season.

The three leads a list that saw 10 honorees compile a 3.9 GPA or higher and 17 student-athletes with a 3.8 GPA or higher.

The GNAC All-Academic Team includes 42 repeat honorees, accounting for 76.4 percent of the team’s total selections. Fourteen honorees are being recognized for the third time and four earned their fourth selections. The four-time selections are Montana State Billings senior Bryan Maxwell, Northwest Nazarene senior Daniel Brendel and Western Washington seniors Gus Diehl and Teagan Eldridge.

Northwest Nazarene led the conference with 16 total selections, accounting for nearly 60 percent of the Nighthawks’ total roster. Saint Martin’s finished with 14 selections and Western Washington finished with 11.

To qualify for the GNAC All-Academic Teams, presented by Barnes & Noble College, nominees must be of sophomore eligibility or greater, have a minimum cumulative GPA or 3.20 or greater, be a letterwinner on their team and must be in their second year at the nominating institution.
