PORTLAND, Ore. – Forty-one GNAC athletes have been singled out as among the best in the West with selection as U.S. Track and Field & Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II All-Region performers for the 2022 outdoor track and field season.

A total of 23 men and 18 women from eight of the conference’s nine competing institutions in the sport earned recognition. Individuals with the top-five marks in each event from each region earned all-region honors, in addition to each member of a top-three ranked relay team. Only USTFCCCA member programs are eligible for awards.

The selections included a pair of performers who earned All-West Region distinction in four different events. Alaska Anchorage senior Elena Cano earned regional honors in the 100-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles, high jump and the heptathlon. Simon Fraser junior Alison Andrews-Paul earned all-region awards in the 400 meters, 800 meters and 1,500 meters and as part of SFU’s 4x400-meter relay team.

Five men were honored in two different events: Northwest Nazarene freshman Steven Schmidt in the high jump and decathlon, Simon Fraser junior Aaron Ahl and freshman Charlie Dannatt in the 800 meters and 1,500 meters; Western Washington senior Mac Franks in the 1,500 meters and steeplechase and WWU senior Calahan Warren in the 1,500 meters and 5,000 meters.

Simon Fraser and Western Washington led all GNAC teams will 11 All-West Region selections. Simon Fraser paced the conference with six women’s selections while Western Washington led the men with seven selections.
