Stephens, Roetcisoender Earn Academic All-District Honors

PORTLAND, Ore. – Two of the top offensive players on the conference first and second-place teams, Alaska Anchorage sophomore Eve Stephens and Western Washington sophomore Chloe Roetcisoender have been selected to the 2019 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Division II Academic All-District 8 Volleyball Team.

The duo was among seven student-athletes elected to the squad, which was selected from players from the GNAC, California Collegiate Athletic Association and PacWest Conference.

Stephens, an accounting major, was the only student-athlete with a perfect 4.00 GPA elected to the team. The right-side hitter leads the GNAC with 3.38 kills and 4.53 points per set. A starter in 21 of 23 matches played this season, Stephens is also averaging 2.26 digs, 0.27 aces and 0.83 blocks per set.

Roetcisoender, an elementary education major with a 3.85 GPA, currently ranks third in the GNAC with a .330 hitting percentage while also ranking second in the GNAC and seventh in Division II with 1.35 blocks per set. A starter in 19 of 23 matches played for the Vikings, Roetcisoender is averaging 1.90 kills per set.

Also selected to the Academic All-District 8 Volleyball Team was Hawaii Hilo junior Bria Beale, Chico State senior Bekah Boyle, Hawaii Pacific sophomore Kirah Boynton-Brown, Cal State San Bernardino junior Alexis Cardoza and Biola junior Sami Hover.

With the selection to the Academic All-District Team, Stephens and Roetcisoender are now eligible for the CoSIDA Division II Academic All-America Team, which will be announced on December 10.

To be nominated for the CoSIDA Academic All-District and All-America Teams, student-athletes must be of sophomore standing or greater, be a starter or important reserve on their team and have a minimum GPA of 3.30 or higher.
