Johnson Named To PING All-West Region Team By GCAA

Western Washington University junior men’s golfer Brett Johnson has selected as a member of the 2015-16 NCAA Division II PING All-West Region team as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Johnson (Ridgefield, WA/Oregon State) led the Vikings to the 2016 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Team Championship earning individual medalist honors turning in a tournament record score of 10-under-par 203 for the 54-hole tournament. The transfer from Oregon State earned GNAC first-team honors and was named the Newcomer of the Year.

Johnson completed his rookie season with the Vikings ranked 2nd in the GNAC with a scoring average of 72.68, the 6th-best scoring average in WWU history. He recorded a team-best 10 rounds of par or better, including a GNAC Tournament low 64 (7 under par) in the first round. The 64 at Coeur d’Alene Golf Resort is tied for the 3rd-lowest round in WWU men’s golf history.

The junior led the Vikings into the national tournament as they finished 18th as a team. Johnson tied for the the lowest score on the team, carding a 223 to tie for 48th place.

Johnson was one of 112 players across eight regions - East, Atlantic, Southeast, South, Midwest, South Central, Central and West - earned all-region honors for 2016.
