Top Shelf: 96 Named To Women's Soccer All-Academic Team
Wednesday, October 12, 2022 PORTLAND, Ore. – Four 4.0 students lead the way for 96 total selections to the 2022 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer All-Academic Team, presented by Barnes & Noble College.
Montana State Billings senior Kiley Sandow leads the list, making her third appearance on the team with her 4.0 GPA as a health and human performance major. The senior has started all 13 matches for the Yellowjackets this season, scoring one goal and logging 880 minutes. Sandow leads 60 repeat honorees with 21 being three-time All-Academic Team selections.
Saint Martin’s fields half of those 4.0 GPA students in sophomores Sosna Araya and Ellison Kephart. Sosna is an environmental studies major and a midfielder for the Saints who has appeared in all eleven matches this season, logging 320 minutes. Kephart has appeared in all but one of SMU’s matches, making four starts and netting one goal while pursuing a degree in nursing.
Central Washington’s Grace Jackson has a 4.0 GPA as a clinical physiology major. The junior forward has appeared in all 12 of the Wildcats’ matches this season, starting in 10, and racking up 669 minutes.
The four 4.0 performers are among 23 student-athletes on the team with a 3.9 GPA or higher. Northwest Nazarene had five and Central Washington, Montana State Billings and Western Oregon all had four.
Northwest Nazarene seniors Sierra Sanchez and Magda Wronski are both four-time honorees who have started all 12 matches for the Nighthawks this season. Sanchez has two goals and three assists as a starting forward for NNU while Wronski has racked up three assists over 805 minutes as part of the second-best defense in the conference.
Central Washington leads the conference with 16 students being named to the All-Academic Team. Montana State Billings and Seattle Pacific both finished with 15 selections and Saint Martin’s had 14.
To qualify for the GNAC All-Academic Teams, presented by Barnes & Noble College, nominees must be of sophomore eligibility or greater, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.20 or greater, be a letterwinner on their team and must be in their second year at the nominating institution.
