PORTLAND  – Half of the conference has started its season with Montana State Billings and Western Washington competing at the Western New Mexico Intercollegiate, while Concordia went to the Rose City Intercollegiate earlier this week.

Smell the Roses: At the Rose City Intercollegiate in Aurora, Ore., Concordia finished strong with a score of 303 in the final round, which was better than five Division I schools at the tournament. The Cavaliers were paced by a pair of freshmen, including McKenzi Stan, who finished in a tie for 35th place overall with a 54-hole score of 228. Fellow freshman Cammie Decker finished in 55th with a score of 233.

Breaking Birdie: Out of 20 teams, Western Washington finished 10th in the Western New Mexico Intercollegiate, while Montana State Billings claimed a 14th-place finsh. The Vikings finished the first round of the 36-hole tournament at 17-over 305 for seventh place in the tournament. The Yellowjackets finished 28-over 316 in both rounds.

Two-time defending GNAC Co-Player of the Year Jenn Paul tied Audrey Orem for the best score among Western Washington both finishing at seven-over 151. Orem finished the second round at even-par 72, which was the best single-round score by a Viking at the tournament, earning GNAC Golfer of the Week for her effort.

Bailee Dexter paced the Yellowjackets at seven-over 151, and Sammy Walter was just one stroke behind at eight-over 152. Only 20 strokes separated the five Yellowjackets, which were competing in their second event this year after beating Rocky Mountain in match play at the Leslie Spalding Cup.
