Vikings 11th After Two Regional Rounds

PORTLAND, Ore. – Western Washington women’s golf carded a team score of 312 during the second of three rounds at the NCAA West Regional at the Brookside Country Club in Stockton, California. Put together with their first-round 304, the Vikings’ score of 616 is good for 11th place in the field with 18 holes left to play tomorrow.

The Vikings are one stroke behind 10th-place Biola and seven strokes ahead of 12th-place Saint Mary’s (TX). Sophomore Dani Bailey remains the top WWU golfer on the leaderboard, tied for 27th place at 7-over-par 151. After an even-par round yesterday that featured two eagles, Bailey started and ended her round with five-hole stretches of four pars and a birdie. She finished at 7-over-par 79 for the day.

The best Vikings score came from senior Sarah Shea, who shot a 4-over-par 76. Two of Shea’s team-high three birdies on the day came in the final two holes of her round. After two rounds, Shea is tied for 59th place at 160. Sophomore Claire Moon also improved on her day one score, carding a 6-over-par 78 after shooting a 79 yesterday. Moon is tied for 54th at 13-over-par 157.

GNAC Championships individual medalist and sophomore Elise Sumner is a stroke ahead of Moon at 12-over-par 156, good for a share of 47th place. Sumner shot a 79 today after a 77 in the first round. Megan Billeter wraps up WWU’s scoring in 65th place at 162.

Colorado Christian’s Faith Kilgore and Texas A&M International’s Sahara Washington are tied for the lead at 7-under-par 137. Texas A&M International is holding a two-stroke team lead with a 36-hole score of 4-over-par 580. Dallas Baptist is two strokes back and Colorado Christian is four strokes back.

The final round is Wednesday. Billeter will be in the first group teeing off from hole 10 at 8:00 a.m.
