Leung Leads Clan At Battle At Hilton Head Island

PORTLAND, Ore. – Just two GNAC women’s golf teams were in action in February to open the spring season.

Simon Fraser opened its spring schedule tied for seventh place with Lenoir-Rhyne with a score of 618 at the Battle at Hilton Head Island in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

Senior Emily Leung led the way as she finished tied for fourth place with Limestone’s Pilar Martinez and Columbus State’s Anna Meleshkina with a score of 4-over-par 148. Leung was just one stroke shy of finishing in a four-way tie for first place.

Jaya Rampuri also impressed as she finished tied for 13th place with a score of 8-over-par 152 to help Leung in pacing the Clan.

Concordia finished in fourth place at the PLNU Sea Lion Invitation in San Diego with a score of 629. Senior Cammie Decker led the Cavaliers as she finished tied for ninth place with a score of 9-over-par 153, just one stroke behind Biola’s Sami Penor and Cal State LA’s Morgan Sjoerdsma, who finished tied for seventh place.

Junior Staesha Flock and freshman Jae Eun Park turned in top-15 finishes for the Cavs. Flock finished in 12th place with a score of 155 while Park finished two strokes behind her, finishing in 13th place at 157.

Five GNAC teams will compete at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout on Monday and Tuesday in Alameda, California. Saint Martin’s will be the only team not in attendance as the Saints will open their spring season at the Puget Sound Invitational on March 7-8 in DuPont, Washington.

AROUND THE GNAC
CONCORDIA
• Concordia was the only GNAC team to compete at the PLNU Sea Lion Invitation. The Cavaliers finished in fourth place in the team standings with a score of 629 over two rounds.

• Three Cavs finished in the top-15, led by senior Cammie Decker, who finished tied for ninth place with a score of 9-over-par 153.

• Junior Staesha Flock also impressed, finishing in 12th place with a score of 155 while freshman Jae Eun Park followed closely behind in 13th place with a score of 157.

• Junior Kendall Freeman just missed the top-20, finishing tied for 22nd place with a score of 164.

• Concordia will be one of five teams competing at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout on Monday and Tuesday in Alameda, California.

MONTANA STATE BILLINGS
• Montana State Billings has not yet competed in the spring. The Yellowjackets will open their spring schedule at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout on Monday and Tuesday in Alameda, California.

NORTHWEST NAZARENE
• Northwest Nazarene has not yet competed in the spring. The Nighthawks will open their spring season at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout in Alameda, California on Monday and Tuesday.

SAINT MARTIN’S
• Saint Martin’s has not yet competed in the spring. The Saints will return to action at the Puget Sound Invitational on March 7-8 in DuPont, Washington.

SIMON FRASER
• Simon Fraser was the only GNAC team competing at the Battle at Hilton Head Island. The Clan finished tied for seventh place with Lenoir-Rhyne with a score of 618.

• Senior Emily Leung led the Clan again, finishing tied for fourth place with a score of 4-over-par 148. She shot 2-over-par 74 in both rounds to pace the Clan.

• Leung and fellow senior Jaya Rampuri paced the Clan during the fall season and they led the Clan again on Monday and Tuesday. Rampuri finished tied for 13th place with a score of 8-over-par 152. Freshman Frida Ehnebom wasn’t far behind, finishing tied for 20th place at 9-over-par 153.

• Up next, the Clan will hit the links at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout on Monday and Tuesday in Alameda, California.

WESTERN WASHINGTON
• Western Washington has not yet competed in the spring. The Vikings will return to action at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout on Monday and Tuesday in Alameda, California.
