Leung Ties Single-Round Record At DII West Region Preview

PORTLAND, Ore. – The women’s golf fall season continued this week with Simon Fraser and Western Washington competing at the Division II West Region Preview on Monday and Tuesday at the Legends Course in Carlsbad, California.

Simon Fraser finished tied for third place on the team leaderboard at the tournament. The Clan finished in the top-three at all four of its tournaments this fall, including two team victories at the True North Classic on Sept. 16-17 and the Concordia Invitational on Oct. 7-8.

Simon Fraser senior Emily Leung won her first tournament of the fall at the DII West Region Preview with a final score of 2-under-par 142. Leung tied a GNAC women’s golf single-round record with a 69 in the first round. She followed that with a 73 in the second round to secure the victory. Leung has finished in the top-10 at all four of the Clan’s tournaments this fall.

The conference’s top-three finishers all came from the Clan. Junior Estee Leung turned in the second-best performance from the GNAC field, finishing tied for 15th with a score of 10-over-par 154, shooting a consistent 77 in both rounds. She was followed by freshman Claire Lovan, who finished tied for 25th with a score of 157.

Western Washington freshman Elise Sumner also impressed at the DII West Region Preview, turning in a score of 158 to finish tied for 29th place to pace the Vikings in their 10th-place finish.

AROUND THE GNAC
CONCORDIA
• Concordia will compete at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate in Waikoloa, Hawaii, to conclude its fall season. The tournament will run from Oct. 28-30.

MONTANA STATE BILLINGS
• Montana State Billings concluded its fall season with a loss to Rocky Mountain on Oct. 19-20 at the Leslie Spalding Cup at the Lake Hills Golf Course in Billings.

NORTHWEST NAZARENE
• Northwest Nazarene concluded its fall season with a win in a dual match against College of Idaho on Oct. 12 at the Timberstone Golf Course in Caldwell, Idaho.

• Senior Natalie Chehimi was the top performer in the dual match, finishing in first with a score of 4-over-par 76 over one round.

• Sophomore Taylor Entenman and junior Hannah Holloway tied for second with scores of 7-over-par 79. Junior Ragan McGilvery also impressed with a fourth-place finish with a score of 8-over-par 80.

SAINT MARTIN’S
• Saint Martin’s will conclude its fall season at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate in Waikoloa, Hawaii. The tournament will run from Oct. 28-30.

SIMON FRASER
• Simon Fraser concluded its fall season, finishing tied for third with Dallas Baptist at the Division II West Region Preview on Monday and Tuesday. The Clan placed two players in the top-15 to finish with a final score of 609.

• Senior Emily Leung won the tournament to pick up her first individual victory of the fall. She finished with a score of 2-under-par 142 over two rounds. In the process, she tied a GNAC women’s golf single-round record with a 69 in the first round. Leung has finished in the top-10 at every one of the Clan’s tournaments this fall.

• Junior Estee Leung turned in an impressive card as well, finishing tied for 15th with a score of 10-over-par 154. Freshman Claire Lovan finished tied for 25th with a score of 157.

WESTERN WASHINGTON
• Western Washington concluded its season at the Division II West Region Preview, finishing in 10th place with a final score of 642.

• Freshman Elise Sumner was the top performer for the Vikings, finishing tied for 29th place with a score of 158 over two rounds.

Brianna Esvelt finished tied for 37th with a score of 160, two strokes behind Sumner.
