COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – A stiff breeze coming off of Lake Coeur d’Alene did little to stifle a big day for Simon Fraser Tuesday as the Clan came from behind to win the 2019 GNAC Women’s Golf Championships at the Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course.

Coming into the day in third place and eight strokes behind first-place Concordia, the Clan came together to tie the GNAC spring record with a team score of 294 on the afternoon. That allowed Simon Fraser to finish with a two-day total of 613, edging out the Cavaliers by two strokes.

Simon Fraser placed three of its four scoring golfers in the top-10. Senior Belinda Lin led the way with a second-place finish with a two-round score of 69. After carding a 79 on the opening round, Lin turned in a tournament-low round of 2-under-par 69 on Tuesday with five birdies and just three bogeys.

Junior Jaya Rampuri finished third with a score of 150, including a low round of 2-over-par 73 in the second round, while senior Kylie Jack placed third with a score of 153.

The team title is the third for Simon Fraser in the last four years. With the victory, the Clan earns the GNAC’s automatic qualifying position for the NCAA Division II Championships. The West Regional will be held from May 6-8 at the Amarillo Country Club in Amarillo, Texas.

Western Washington junior Lacy Sheldon maintained her first-round lead to earn medalist honors with a two-round score of 3-over-par 145. Sheldon had three bogeys in the first 12 holes of the day, but rebounded to fire birdies on holes No. 15 and 17 to finish three strokes ahead of Lin.

Concordia finished second in the team competition with a two-round score of 616 and placed four of its golfers in the top-10. Senior Shantel Antonio finished fourth with a score of 10-over-par 152. Junior Cammie Decker placed sixth with a score of 154, freshman Kaley Saludares finished seventh at 155 and sophomore Kendall Freeman tied for eighth with Northwest Nazarene’s Stephanie Miller with a score of 157.

Rounding out team scoring was Northwest Nazarene at 650, Montana State Billings at 652 and Saint Martin’s at 686.
