PORTLAND, Ore. - Concordia University Interim Director of Athletics Lauren Eads has announced that John Wurzer has been named the Cavaliers' director of golf. Wurzer takes over for Kim Dehning who served as interim director of golf since taking over for Adrian Burtner this past season.

Wurzer comes to Concordia from Long Beach State University where he was the assistant men's golf coach from 2015 to 2017. While at Long Beach State, he was in charge of recruiting and served as the tournament director for the 2016 Walker Cup Fundraiser.

Prior to Long Beach State, Wurzer served as assistant coach and director of golf operations at the University of Southern California (USC) from 2009 to 2013. During that time, he assisted with the USC men's and women's teams achieve top 20 rankings and helped assemble elite recruiting classes.

"I'm excited and grateful for the opportunity to be the next director of golf," said Wurzer. "Both programs have a proven history of success that we will build upon going forward. Thank you to Interim Athletic Director Lauren Eads and Associate Athletic Director Jessica Harbison Weaver for allowing me the chance to lead Concordia golf."

Before USC, Wurzer was the head girls' golf coach at Torrance (Calif.) High School for nine seasons. He guided Torrance to three California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) titles in four years, from 2005 to 2008. Wurzer has had four alumni achieve LPGA Tour membership with one earning LPGA Tour Rookie of the Year honors. Torrance also captured three CIF Southern Section titles along with three CIF State Southern Regional titles and was the 2006 CIF State runner-up.

Wurzer received his bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies in coach education and sports development from Long Beach State in 2006.
