PORTLAND, Ore. - Saint Martin’s took second at the Dennis Rose Invitational at Waikoloa Beach Golf Course in Hawaii on Monday and Tuesday in the last tournament for the GNAC this fall.

The Saint’s placed three golfers in the top 10 on the par-70, 6002-yard course and finished with a three-round score of 964.

The first round proved to be the Saints best as they shot a 312, only two strokes off the pace of the leader. SMU carded 326 on the last two rounds to finish in second, 46 strokes behind the winner Sonoma State, but 35 strokes ahead of the third place team.

Jennifer Liedes finished in the top five in her second consecutive event, placing third with a three-round score of 231.

After opening with a 79, Liedes responded by shooting the fourth lowest score of the tournament in round two, carding a 75 and putting her in a tie for second.  She ended with a 77 to finish in third, eight strokes behind the winner, Haley Whitbeck from Sonoma State.

Liedes ends the year with the third lowest average in the GNAC at 75.3 per round.

Sarah Salvatori finished in the top 10 in her second consecutive event, placing sixth. Her opening round of 74 was her lowest round of the season and put her in second place, but she finished with scores of 85 and 83 for a combined total of 242.

Three strokes behind Salvatori was Lisa Zelasko who tied for seventh. Zelasko helped contribute to Saint Martin’s opening-round low by scoring a 79 and ended with a total score of 245.

Junior Grace Dyer and sophomore Chloe Reed shot their best rounds in the lower 80’s to finish tied for 12th and 17th respectively.

This is the last tournament the GNAC will be a part of in the fall golf season. Play will resume Feb. 23 with Northwest Nazarene competing at the Cal Baptist Invitational in Riverside, Cal.
