Simon Fraser, Concordia Lead Indoor Track All-Region Picks

NEW ORLEANS – With the national meet on the horizon, a total of 85 GNAC athletes have been selected as NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field All-West Region performers by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Simon Fraser led the way with a total of 15 selections, which included nine women and members from both the Clan’s men’s and women’s distance medley relay teams. Concordia, in its first year of eligibility for all-region accolades, landed 14 selections. Eight of those came from the men’s team and included members of the men’s 4x400-meter relay team.

Thiry-two athletes were selected as all-region in at least two events. Two GNAC athletes, Concordia’s James Phillips and Western Oregon’s David Ribich, were named all-region in four events. Phillips was honored for his performances in the 60-mete rhurdles, 4x400-meter relay, long jump and Heptathlon. Ribich was honored his his efforts in the 800 meters, mile, 3,000 meters and the distance medley relay.

The USTFCCCA Division II All-Region Teams are comprised by the top-five individuals in each event from each region along with each of the members of the regions’ top-three relay teams. Only athletes from USTFCCCA member intitutions are eligible for the award.

A total of 45 male athletes from the GNAC were chosen among a total of 559 all-region athletes from 124 different Division II institutions. A total of 40 GNAC women’s athletes are among 521 selected from 124 different institutions. All 10 GNAC schools which sponsor track and field are represented on the team.
