PORTLAND, Ore. – The Western Washington women’s golf team saw its season come to an end with the conclusion of the NCAA West Regional from the Brookside Country Club in Stockton, California. The Vikings finished in 12th place with a 54-hole team score of 924, six strokes behind 11th-place Saint Mary’s (TX).

In the third and final round Wednesday, the Vikings shot 308 as a team, a four-stroke improvement over Tuesday’s total. Sophomore Claire Moon ended as the Vikings’ top finisher after shooting a 3-over-par 75 on the final day. Moon tied for 50th place with a total score of 16-over-par 232. Moon tallied 14 pars during her final round, including on eight of the first nine holes and each of the final five holes.

Sophomore Elise Sumner, fresh off winning the GNAC Championships, continued her strong run of play finishing tied for 59th place at 235. After carding a 76 in round one, Sumner shot 79 on each of the final two days. Sumner and Moon were the only WWU golfers to break 80 in every round of the regional.

Senior Sarah Shea shot 4-over-par 76 for the second consecutive day, finishing in 61st at 236. Sophomore Dani Bailey, the top Viking on the leaderboard after each of the first two rounds, finished 63rd at 238. GNAC Co-Player of the Year Megan Billeter finished 64th at 240.

Dallas Baptist University won the NCAA West Regional title with a 54-hole team score of 864. Also advancing on to the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf National Championship will be Colorado Christian (873), Texas A&M International (875), Texas A&M Commerce (882) and West Texas A&M (883). Colorado Christian’s Faith Kilgore won the individual title at 9-under-par 207, three strokes ahead of West Texas A&M’s Gam Songprasert.
