PORTLAND, Ore. – Difference makers on two teams jockey for playoff position, Seattle Pacific senior guard Harry Cavell and Northwest Nazarene sophomore guard George Reidy have been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America’s (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 8 Men’s Basketball Team.

Both Cavell and Reidy are repeat honorees on the Academic All-District Team with both players making the squad in 2021. Cavell was also named a Third Team Academic All-American in 2021.

Cavell holds a 3.78 GPA as a graduate student in Seattle Pacific’s data analytics program and had a 3.84 undergraduate GPA as a business administration major. The 2020 GNAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year, Cavell averages 13 points and five rebounds per game while ranking third in the conference with 1.7 steals per game. Part of an SPU team that leads Division II in free-throw percentage, Cavell is eighth individually in the GNAC with an .809 free-throw percentage. He scored a season-high 24 points at Alaska Anchorage on Dec. 30.

Reidy, who holds a 3.88 GPA as a recreation and sport management major, is a sophomore in terms of eligibility but a senior academically. The Nighthawks’ top scorer at 13.4 points per game, Reidy ranks fourth in the GNAC with 1.6 steals per game. Reidy has scored 20 or more points three times this season, led by his 27-point performance at Central Washington on Feb. 3.

Both players were GNAC All-Academic Team selections with Cavell earning his fourth All-Academic selection.

With their selections, Cavell and Reidy are now eligible for consideration for the CoSIDA Division II Men’s Basketball All-America Team, which will be announced on Mar. 15.

The Academic All-District teams are nominated and voted upon by members of CoSIDA and recognize student-athletes of sophomore standing or higher who are starters or significant reserves for their teams with a minimum GPA of 3.30 or better. Members of the Academic All-District 8 team are selected from players from the GNAC, CCAA and PacWest Conference.
