BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Bellingham native and former Western Washington University men’s golfer Cody Roth will tee off Monday in the 121st U.S. Men’s Amateur that will be played August 9-15 in Pennsylvania.

Roth, a standout member of the WWU men’s golf program from 2015-19, will tee off in the first round Monday at Longue Vue Club in Verona, Pennsylvania, which will co-host the stroke play portion of the event with historic Oakmont Country Club. Roth will play his second round at Oakmont, the nine-time host of the U.S. Open.

The graduate of Bellingham High School qualified for the U.S. Amateur by tying for second place at the 36-hole qualifier held July 12 at The Home Course in DuPont, Washington. Hatch is the latest Viking to participate in the prestigious USGA event, joining five-time amateur competitor and former WWU All-American Jake Koppenberg (2020, 2018, 2017, 2015, 2008) and Chris Hatch (2018).

During his four-year career as a Viking, Roth competed in 36 tournaments and recorded a 74.36 stroke average (+2.74 to par). He was part of three Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championship squads, was a two-time All-GNAC selection and played in the NCAA Division II Regional Championships each season during his collegiate career.

Roth’s successful summer has been highlighted by reaching the quarterfinal round of match play at the 112th Oregon Amateur Championship at Bandon Dunes and winning the 2021 Homestead Open in Lynden.

This marks Roth’s second USGA event in recent years, as he teamed up with his father, Craig, in the 2019 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball in Bandon, Oregon. Cody and Craig are also the five-time winners of the Washington Parent-Child Chapman Championship. His father will be on his bag as his caddy in this week’s U.S. Amateur.

Play at the 121st U.S. Amateur will be held August 9-15, with the 312-player field competing in 36 holes of stroke play on Monday and Tuesday. The top 64 players will qualify for match play following the two rounds of stroke play.
