Western Ore. Withdraws From GNAC Baseball Championships

Sunday, May 16, 2021

PORTLAND, Ore. – Due to health and safety protocols related to COVID-19 within its baseball program, Western Oregon University announced on Sunday that it will not participate in this week’s GNAC Baseball Championships.

Under the conference’s contingency plans for COVID-related reasons, Central Washington moves up to the No. 2 seed in the tournament. The No. 3 spot in the tournament is to be filled by the next team in the conference’s regular-season standings. With the two school’s academic years completed, both Saint Martin’s and Montana State Billings have declined the opportunity to participate.

As such, the GNAC Baseball Championships format will shift to a best-of-three series between Northwest Nazarene and Central Washington. The two teams will play one game on Thursday with first pitch at 1 p.m. Game two will take place Friday at noon with the third game (if necessary) starting 30 minutes after the conclusion of game two.

The GNAC Baseball Championships will take place at the Vail Baseball Field on the campus of Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho.

To protect the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches and support staff, spectators are not allowed at this year’s GNAC Championships. Live video and stats links will be available at GNACSports.com.
