FAIRBANKS, Alaska – Coming off a season where he swept three of the GNAC’s major postseason awards, Alaska senior guard Shadeed Shabazz has been named as a Preseason All-American by Basketball Times.

Basketball Times is a monthly publication that covers NCAA Division II, III and NAIA college basketball.

Shabazz, the reigning GNAC Player of the Year, Co-Defensive Player of the Year, and Newcomer of the Year was the lone GNAC player selected to the preseason list and was one of just two players from the West Region named to the 24-man list.

Shabazz took the GNAC by storm after transferring to Alaska from Iowa Western College. He led the conference and finished fourth in Division II in scoring with 26.6 points per game. He led Division II with 3.38 steals per game and 114 total steals, setting GNAC single-season record in the process.

In addition to the steals records, Shabazz set GNAC single-season records in points scored (798), field goals made (274) and field goals attempted (588).

Alongside his conference special awards, Shabazz was a unanimous First Team All-GNAC selection, a First Team All-West Region selection by both the D2CCA and NABC and a Third Team All-American by the D2CCA.
