LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The GNAC picked up the first American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II Player of the Week award for the season. Now a GNAC player has earned the last of the season.

After being named the GNAC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, Alaska Anchorage junior setter Ellen Floyd was named on Tuesday as the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week.

Floyd averaged 11.83 assists, 2.83 digs, one kill and 0.67 aces per set as the Seawolves finished the regular season with two wins that moved UAA into a tie for second place in the GNAC standings and secured the team’s spot in the NCAA Division II West Regional field that was announced on Monday.

On Thursday, Floyd finished with 32 assists, nine digs, four kills and four aces with a .444 hitting percentage in a three-set sweep of Western Oregon. She followed that up with 39 assists, nine digs, two blocks and two kills in Saturday’s three-set sweep of Saint Martin’s.

Floyd earned her second First Team All-GNAC selection this week. Floyd is averaging 10.14 assists per set while leading the conference and ranking 33rd in Division II with 0.49 aces per set.

Floyd joins Simon Fraser freshman opposite Brooke Dexter in earning the AVCA weekly award this season. Dexter earned the honor on September 4, the first national honor handed out this season.

Alaska Anchorage (19-11, 12-6 GNAC) is the No. 8 seed in next week’s NCAA West Regional and will open against No. 1 seeded and No. 2 ranked Cal State San Bernardino on Thursday.
