ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Central Washington University Head Softball Coach Alison Mitchell has stepped down to pursue other opportunities.

"We would like thank Coach Mitchell for her efforts in continuing to build our CWU Softball Program and wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors," Associate Athletic Director for External Communications Tyler Unsicker said.

The Wildcats posted a 31-25 record over two shortened seasons under Mitchell, including an NCAA West Regional appearance in 2021. The Crimson and Black knocked rival Western Washington out with a 9-5 victory. In GNAC play, Central compiled a 13-7 record with Mitchell.

Under Mitchell's tutelage, Teresa Moyle earned D2CCA All-West Region First Team and D2CCA Honorable Mention All-America honors in 2021. In 34 games, Moyle posted an average of .385 with five home runs. She drove in 35 runs, had an OPS of 1.140, hit eight doubles, six triples, and stole seven bases. In 109 at bats, Moyle struck out just four times.

"Working as the head coach for CWU softball has literally been a dream come true for me," Mitchell said. "The players, coaches, and staff are what make this decision so bittersweet. It was extremely difficult for me to decide what to do because of the adversity my team has faced and the strength and resiliency they have shown. I admire these young women so much and truly value the relationships that have been built. CWU softball will always have a very dear place in my heart because this team is special. I leave here excited for a new adventure, but also filled with tears for the people and relationships I move further away from."

Central Washington will begin a national search for its next softball coach.
