BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University Men’s Basketball guard/forward Siaan Rojas has signed a professional contract to play for Piratas de Bogota in Colombia.

Rojas, from Concord, California, is the third Viking from the 2019-20 squad to sign a professional contract to play professionally, joining Trevor Jasinsky (The Netherlands) and Logan Schilder (Austria).

Rojas will report to his new club next month, where he is a dual citizen of Colombia and the United States. His father, Pablo Rojas, was born and raised in Colombia. In the summer of 2018 Rojas suited up for the Colombian National Team in the South American Games.

In three seasons with the Vikings, Rojas appeared in 51 games and made 21 starts. A four-year member of the program, Rojas averaged 9.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.

As a senior in 2019-20, Rojas helped lead the Vikings to the GNAC Championships title and a berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament averaging 10.4 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. He battled through injuries to appear in 20 games, with the Vikings going 15-3 in his 18 games started. He was voted by the coaching staff as the 2019-20 Brad Jackson Ultimate Viking award winner.

“I am very excited for Siaan and his opportunity to play professional basketball,” said WWU head coach Tony Dominguez. “Siaan has battled through injuries the last few years and to see him realize his dream is very satisfying. His talent and work ethic are very high and he will definitely have a long career. We are proud of him and all our former Vikings continuing their professional careers.”

Rojas continues a strong tradition of WWU men’s basketball players that have signed to play professionally, including recent Vikings Deandre Dickson (2016-18), Anye Turner (2012-15), Trey Drechsel (2015-18), Daulton Hommes (2016-18), Taylor Stafford (2016-17), Jeffrey Parker (2013-17), Paul Jones (2011-13), Ricardo Maxwell (2014-16) and John Allen (2010-13) .
