PORTLAND, Ore. – Central Washington would not be 8-0 this week without of the efforts of running back Austin Pernell, who leads the latest list of honorees for GNAC Players of the Week.

Pernell was named the conference’s Football Offensive Player of the Week after he scored both of the Wildcats’ touchdowns in a 17-10 non-conference victory over North Alabama on Saturday. He finished with a career-high 189 rushing yards on 35 carries, accounting for the majority of the Wildcats’ 235 rushing yards. He scored the winning touchdown with 10:42 left in the game, pulling away from a 10-10 tie with the Lions.

Azusa Pacific’s Jason Schwartz earned Defensive Player of the Week honors for his three sacks and three tackles for loss for 29 yards in the Cougars’ 61-0 shutout of Simon Fraser. Western Oregon’s Paul Revis was named the Special Teams Player of the Week honors with his two punt returns for 100 yards against Humboldt State, including a 90-yard return for a touchdown that was two yards short of the GNAC record.

Saint Martin’s swept the men’s soccer awards on the momentum of its 3-2 upset of Western Washington on Thursday. Forward Brandon Madsen earned Offensive Player of the Week laurels after scoring three goals, two of which came against the Vikings. He scored the game-winner in the 78th minute. Defender Sebastian Navarro was named the Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts pacing the Saints’ defense. He also had two assists in the win.

The Vikings’ Gabriela Pelogi was named Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season. She scored her second hat trick of the season, and the sixth in the GNAC in 2017, to lead Western Washington to a 6-0 shutout of Central Washington on Saturday. She tallied her first goal just 22 seconds into the contest. Concordia’s Anna Miller earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after posting her sixth and seventh shutouts of the season in victories over Western Oregon and Simon Fraser.

Northwest Nazarene senior Kendra Bodine was named the Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week after she finished with 39 kills, 6.50 kills per set, a .607 hitting percentage, 29 digs and six blocks in a pair of wins. She finished with 20 kills, 13 digs and a .655 hitting percentage in Thursday’s sweep of Concordia and then added 19 kills, 11 digs, four blocks and hit .562 in Saturday’s sweep of Western Oregon.

Western Washington’s Joellee Buckner earned Defensive Player of the Week, her second weekly honor of the season, after she finished with 37 digs, 6.17 digs per set and nine blocks in a pair of sweeps. She finished with 18 digs, eight blocks and seven kills in Tuesday’s win at Simon Fraser and added 19 digs and six kills at Montana State Billings on Saturday.

Simon Fraser senior Chris Crisologo earned the final Men’s Golf Player of the Week award for the fall after he led GNAC players with a third-place finish at the Cal State Monterey Bay Otter Fall Invitational. He shot a three-round score of 5-under-par 211 and carded a low 18-hole score of 3-under-par 69 on the final round.

GNAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK SELECTIONS – WEEK 8
FOOTBALL
Offensive: Austin Pernell (Central Washington, RB, 5-9, Sr., Kent, Wash. – Washington State Univ.): Pernell scored both of Central Washington’s touchdowns, including the game-winning touchdown with 10:42 to go, as the Wildcats scored a 17-10 win over North Alabama. He finished with career-high 189 rushing yards on 35 carries as CWU rushed for a total of 235 yards. Also Nominated: Weston Carr (Azusa Pacific), Ja’Quan Gardner (Humboldt State).

Defensive: Jason Schwartz (Azusa Pacific, DE, 6-4, Sr., Santa Barbara, Calif. – Dos Pueblos): Schwartz finished with three sacks and three tackles for loss, setting Simon Fraser back 29 yards, in Azusa Pacific’s 61-0 shutout of the Clan on Saturday. The sacks were a career high for Schwartz and he has an APU leading eight sacks on the season. He helped Azusa Pacific limit Simon Fraser to 112 yards of total offense. Also Nominated: Billy Greer (Central Washington).

Special Teams: Paul Revis (Western Oregon, WR/KR, 5-9, Sr., Scappoose, Ore. – Scappoose): Revis had a pair of punt returns for 100 yards, including a 90-yard return for a touchdown in the second quarter in the Wolves’ 42-32 loss to Humboldt State. The return was the second longest in both WOU and GNAC history. Revis finished the day with 189 all-purpose yards with 89 receiving yards. Also Nominated: Jacob Hall (Azusa Pacific), Jonathan Kuhn (Central Washington).

MEN’S SOCCER
Offensive: Brandon Madsen (Saint Martin’s, F, 6-2, Fr., Auburn, Wash. – Seattle Univ.): Madsen scored three goals in two matches as Saint Martin’s went 1-1 last week. In the Saints’ 3-2 win over Western Washington on Thursday, Madsen netted the go-ahead goal off the rebound of a penalty kick in the 57th minute and scored the game-winner in the 78th minute. He then netted a game-tying goal on his only shot in Saturday’s 3-2 loss to Simon Fraser. Also Nominated: Kieran McGinn (Concordia), Niklas Schregel (Montana State Billings), Matteo Polisi (Simon Fraser), Luke Olney (Western Washington).

Defensive: Sebastian Navarro (Saint Martin’s, D, 5-10, So., Yakima, Wash. – Marysville Pilchuck): Navarro paced the Saint Martin’s defense in the 1-1 week, which included a 3-2 win over Western Washington on Thursday. He also finished with a pair of assists against the Vikings, including an assist on the game-winner in the 78th minute.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
Offensive: Gabriela Pelogi (Western Washington, F, 5-4, Jr., Federal Way, Wash. – Federal Way): Pelogi scored her second hat trick of the season in the Vikings’ 6-0 shutout of Central Washington on Saturday. She tallied the opening goal just 22 seconds into the match and added goals in the 77th and 86th minutes. Pelogi also had a match-high five shots in the Vikings’ 1-0 win over Seattle Pacific on Thursday. Also Nominated: Gabrielle Ewing (Concordia), Alexa Iacolucci (Montana State Billings), Kiersten Madsen (Saint Martin’s).

Defensive: Anna Miller (Concordia, GK, 5-6, So., Issaquah, Wash. – Issaquah): Miller posted sixth and seventh shutouts of the season as Concordia ran its current win streak to 11 matches with wins over Western Oregon and Simon Fraser. She had three saves in Thursday’s 3-0 shutout over the Wolves and made four stops in the 1-0 win over the Clan in Canada on Saturday. Also Nominated: Ali Koehler (Saint Martin’s), Sierra Shugarts (Western Washington).

VOLLEYBALL

Defensive: Joellee Buckner (Western Washington, OPP, 5-10, Sr., Colville, Wash. – Colville): Buckner led the Vikings with 37 digs, averaged 6.17 digs per set and has nine blocks as the Vikings extended their win streak to nine matches. She came close to a triple-double with 18 digs, eight blocks and seven kills in Tuesday’s three-set sweep at Simon Fraser. Buckner then finished with 19 digs to go along with six kills in a three-set sweep at Montana State Billings on Saturday. Also Nominated: Keala Kaio-Perez (Alaska Anchorage), Kyla Morgan (Central Washington), Emily Gooding (Saint Martin’s), Jayme Bratsberg (Simon Fraser).

MEN’S GOLF
Chris Crisologo (Simon Fraser, Sr., Richmond, B.C. – Vancouver Coll.): Crisologo closed his fall season with a third-place finish at the Cal State Monterey Bay Otter Fall Invitational. He carded a three-round score of 5-under-par 211, which included two rounds under par and a low of 3-under-par 69 on the final round. Also Nominated: Adam Barker (Western Washington).
