PORTLAND, Ore. – A major presence in goal for Northwest Nazarene, sophomore goalkeeper Sawyer Price leads the 2020-21 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer All-Academic Team, presented by Barnes & Noble College.

A recreation and sport management major, Price is one of three selections with a 4.00 GPA. A first-time All-Academic honoree, The Olympia, Washington, native has played in all five of the Nighthawks’ matches in 2021 and started in four. He has collected a 3-1-1 record in the abbreviated 2021 season with 15 saves, a shutout and a 1.04 goals against average.

Joining Price in the 4.00 club are NNU junior goalkeeper Alex Nadermann, a physics major, and Seattle Pacific sophomore midfielder Tyler Speer, who is majoring in biochemistry.

The trio is among 10 student-athletes on the list with a cumulative GPA of 3.80 or higher and seven student-athletes with a GPA of 3.90 or higher.

The All-Academic Team has 23 repeat selections, including nine three-time selections in Montana State Billings seniors Luca Battistotti and Shantik Bedrosian; Northwest Nazarene senior Danny Cuevas; Saint Martin’s senior Nick Phillips; and Seattle Pacific seniors Jose Benavides, Sam Malloch, Alex Mejia, Nik Reierson and Travis Swallow.

The Nighthawks led the conference with 13 All-Academic selections, seven of whom have a 3.50 GPA or better, while Seattle Pacific and Western Washington had 10 selections apiece.

To qualify for the GNAC All-Academic Teams, presented by Barnes & Noble College, nominees must be of sophomore eligibility or greater, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.20 or greater, be a letterwinner on their team and must be in their second year at the nominating institution.
