THIS WEEK'S GNAC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

OFFENSE
Andres Perez, Montana State Billings
F/M • 5-8 • Sophomore • Pittsburg, Calif.

Perez recorded his second career multi-goal game coming off the bench with two goals and an assist in Montana State Billings’ 4-0 rout of South Dakota Mines on Sunday to close out the Rimrock Classic.  It was the Yellowjackets’ first win of the season.

Martin made three saves on three shots on goal and recorded his first shutout of the season in the Yellowjackets’ 4-0 win over South Dakota Mines on Sunday to earn his second consecutive GNAC Defensive Player of the Week award. He also recorded five saves against Humboldt State on Friday.

AROUND THE GNAC

CONCORDIA

• After going 2-0 at home to start the season, Concordia dropped two games last week to Chico State and Sonoma State to drop to a .500 winning percentage.

• Brendan Laun scored the only goal for the Cavs in their 3-1 loss to Chico State. Goalkeeper Kenneth Symmes made five saves in the game.

• Sonoma State scored a goal in the 49th minute to take a 3-1 lead. Nicholas Denley scored a goal on a penalty kick in the 70th minute to pull the Cavs within one goal, but the Seawolves’ defense was too much for the Cavs to complete the comeback.

• The Cavs are second in the GNAC with seven goals.

• Paul Seydel leads the GNAC and is ninth in Division II with three assists. Seydel also ranks first in the GNAC and 16th in Division II with 0.75 assists per match.

• Denley is tied for second in the GNAC with two goals.

• The Cavs will be at home this week to play Lubbock Christian at 7 p.m. on Friday in Portland, Oregon.

MONTANA STATE BILLINGS

• Montana State Billings picked up its first win of the season with a 4-0 shutout of South Dakota Mines. The Yellowjackets put up 12 shots and seven shots on goal in the victory at the Rimrock Classic.

• The Yellowjackets swept this week’s Players of the Week awards.

• Perez is second in the GNAC with five points and two goals, all of which were recorded against South Dakota Mines on Sunday.

• Jessy Martin has proven himself to be among the best goalkeepers in the GNAC. Martin made three saves on three shots on goal and recorded his first shutout of the season in the win over South Dakota Mines. He earned GNAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second consecutive week.

• Martin ranks first in the GNAC and 13th in Division II with 24 saves. He also ranks second in the GNAC with 7.00 saves per match.

• MSUB ranks second in the GNAC with a 0.95 goals against average.

• MSUB has an overall record of 1-2-1.

• The Yellowjackets will head to Bismarck, North Dakota, to play Eastern New Mexico at 1 p.m. at the MDU Resources Community Bowl.

NORTHWEST NAZARENE

• Northwest Nazarene dropped to 1-2-0 on the season with a 3-1 home loss to Colorado Mesa on Saturday.

• The Nighthawks were able to record eight shots and three shots on goal, but only scored one goal.

• Danny Cuevas scored the lone goal against Colorado Mesa in the 3-1 loss.

• Alex Nadermann recorded two saves in the loss against Colorado Mesa. He ranks tied for third in the GNAC with 12 saves.

• The Nighthawks will travel to California this week to play Notre Dame de Namur at 3 p.m. on Thursday in Belmont and Dominican at noon on Saturday in San Rafael.

SAINT MARTIN'S

• Saint Martin’s split last week’s home games with a 4-0 win over Pacific (Ore.) and a 1-0 loss to Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Saints’ record stands at 2-1-1.

• Brandon Madsen scored two goals in the win over Pacific. The first goal that Madsen scored in the match made him Saint Martin’s outright all-time leading goal scorer. He now has three goals in 2019 and 32 goals in his career.

• John Cayman and Amri Mwenyeheri also scored a goal each in the win over the Boxers.

• Dylan Shaw and Hunter Askland shared goalkeeping duties against the Boxers. Shaw played the entire 90 minutes against Cal State Dominguez Hills and recorded one save on two shots on goals against the Toros.

• The Saints rank first in the GNAC in scoring offense, goals against average, shutout percentage, goals, assists and points.

• Madsen ranks first in the GNAC in total goals and goals per match with three goals and 0.75 goals per match. He also leads the GNAC with seven total points.

• The Saints have a busy Week 3. The team will travel to San Francisco to meet with Academy of Art at noon on Thursday before going to play Stanislaus State in Turlock, California at noon on Saturday. The Saints will come home the next day to host Lubbock Christian at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

SEATTLE PACIFIC

• Seattle Pacific lost both of its games last week to drop to a 0-2-1 overall record. The Falcons dropped Friday’s game 1-0 at Colorado Mines then lost 3-0 to then No. 6 West Texas A&M.

• Goalkeeper Lars Helleren made nine saves on 10 shots on goal from Colorado Mines. Jordan Marwood had goalkeeping duties in the game against West Texas A&M and recorded 11 saves.

• The Falcons lead Division II with 10.33 saves per match. Helleren ranks first in the GNAC with a 0.900 goals against average and second in the GNAC with 19 saves.

• Titus Grant leads the GNAC in shots with 13.

• The Falcons will stay home this week to play Point Loma at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Azusa Pacific at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

SIMON FRASER

• Simon Fraser moved up one spot to No. 22 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll. They remain at No. 4 in the West Region rankings.

• The Clan defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills 2-1 in Lacey, Washington, on Thursday in an overtime thriller that ended with a goal by Marcello Polisi off of a corner kick from his brother, Matteo in the 100th minute.

• Jonathan Kisse scored the other goal coming off the bench for the Clan.

• Goalkeeper Aidan Bain recorded two saves on three shots on goal. The Clan’s defense limited the Toros to just six total shots in the match.

• The Clan ranks first in the GNAC with 1.67 assists per match and second in the GNAC with a 0.967 goals against average.

• Up next for Simon Fraser is a trip to paradise as the Clan will travel to Waipahu, Hawaii, to go head-to-head with Hawaii Pacific at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

WESTERN WASHINGTON

• Western Washington dropped to a 1-2-0 record with a 1-0 loss at No. 6 West Texas A&M in what was a near upset.

• The Vikings outshot West Texas A&M with 13 shots and five shots on goal in the 1-0 loss.

• The Vikings rank second in the GNAC and 30th in Division II with a 0.500 shutout percentage. The Vikings also rank second in the GNAC with seven goals.

• Georg Cholewa is second in the GNAC with five points and also second in the GNAC with 11 shots.

• Up next for WWU are two home games. The Vikings will play No. 4 Azusa Pacific at 7 p.m. on Thursday then Point Loma at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
