PORTLAND, Ore. – With continued success on the field and in the classroom, the GNAC landed five players on the 2019 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 8 Men’s Soccer Team.

Western Washington is well-represented with four players selected in senior defender Jeremiah Lee, sophomore midfielder Gus Diehl and senior forwards Christian Rotter and Ryan Schaefer.

This marks the second consecutive year that Lee and Rotter have been selected to the Academic All-District 8 Team. Lee earned his bachelor’s degree in management in June and is now pursuing a master’s of business administration, posting a 3.75 grade point average. Rotter earned the nod after tallying a 3.81 GPA as a manufacturing and supply chain management major.

A Second Team All-GNAC selection in 2018, Lee has started in every match for the first-place Vikings this season, scoring a goal and distributing an assist. Rotter was an honorable mention selection in 2018 and leads the conference with seven assists this season.

Diehl leads the Vikings on the Academic All-District 8 Team as he posted a near-perfect 3.97 GPA as a finance major. Schaefer turned in a 3.81 GPA as a management information systems major and has been a workhorse for the Viking offense this year. He ranks sixth in the GNAC with seven goals while also ranking seventh with 15 points.

Joining the four Vikings and earning the recognition for the second straight year is Seattle Pacific junior defender Travis Swallow, who posted a 3.98 GPA as a business administration major. Swallow has started in 14 matches this season and has contributed two assists and 14 shots.

The GNAC competed with the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and Pacific West conferences for selections to the Academic All-District 8 Team. The GNAC and CCAA both landed five players on the team while the PacWest was represented by two players.

The Academic All-District teams are nominated and voted upon by members of CoSIDA and recognize student-athletes of sophomore standing or better who are starters or significant reserves for their teams with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 or better. The players selected will be put up for consideration for the Academic All-American Team.
