PORTLAND, Ore. – A pair of individual victories sparked an impressive opening to the GNAC men’s golf spring season.

Simon Fraser senior Scott Kerr led the Clan to a sixth-place finish at the CSUSB Coyote Classic at the Canyon Crest Country Club in Riverside, California as he finished tied for first place with Cal State San Marcos’ Justin Vrzich with a score of 3-over-par 216. Kerr would eventually earn medalist honors after winning a six-hole playoff and was selected as the first GNAC Men’s Golf Player of the Week for the spring season.

Simon Fraser freshman Michael Crisologo helped Kerr to lead the Clan as he finished tied for sixth place with a score of 8-over-par 221.

Concordia also opened its spring season in style, placing three players in the top-five to finish in fourth place at the Bay Area Invitational at the Ruby Hill Golf Club in Pleasanton, California with a score of 883.

Freshman Viktor Olund paced the Cavaliers, finishing in first place with a score of 4-under-par 212 to earn medalist honors. His tournament included a low of 7-under-par 65 in the second round.

Senior Jaxson Daskalos and senior Spencer Rhodes weren’t far behind. Daskalos finished tied for third place with a score of 1-under-par 215 and shot a 5-under-par 67 in the second round. Rhodes rounded out the top-five with a score of even-par 216.

Four teams will return to action on March 9-10 as Montana State Billings, Northwest Nazarene, Saint Martin’s and Simon Fraser will compete at the NDNU Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame de Namur in Livermore, California.

AROUND THE GNAC
CONCORDIA
• Concordia finished in fourth place at the Bay Area Invitational with a score of 883, three strokes behind third-place Cal State Monterey Bay.

• A trio of top-five individual finishes led the Cavaliers. Freshman Viktor Olund picked up the individual victory with a score of 4-under-par 212 over three rounds to earn medalist honors. Olund’s second-round score of 7-under-par 65 paced his performance.

• Senior Jaxson Daskalos was a few strokes behind Olund, finishing tied for third place with a score of 1-under-par 215. Daskalos shot under par in the first two rounds, including a low of 5-under-par 67 in the second round.

• Senior Spencer Rhodes finished strong in fifth place with a score of even-par 216 while freshman Jorgen Viken also performed well as he finished tied for 22nd place with a score of 7-over-par 223.

• The Cavs will compete at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout on March 16-17 in Alameda, California.

MONTANA STATE BILLINGS
• Montana State Billings finished in 13th place at the Bay Area Invitational with a score of 931 over three rounds to start the Yellowjackets’ spring schedule.

• Senior Garrett Woodin was the top performer for the Yellowjackets, finishing tied for 27th place with a score of 8-over-par 224. Woodin’s performance included a 2-under-par 70 in the second round.

• The Yellowjackets will compete next at the NDNU Invitational hosted by Notre Dame de Namur on March 9-10 in Livermore, California.

NORTHWEST NAZARENE
• Northwest Nazarene has not competed yet this spring.

• The Nighthawks will open their spring campaign at the NDNU Invitational on March 9-10 in Livermore, California.

SAINT MARTIN’S
• Saint Martin’s opened its spring season at the Bay Area Invitational, finishing in eighth place with a score of 906.

• Sophomore Max Turnquist was the top performer for the Saints, finishing tied for 14th place with a score of 5-over-par 221. Turnquist shot an even-par 72 in the first two rounds to lead the Saints.

• Up next, the Saints will compete at the NDNU Invitational on March 9-10 in Livermore, California.

SIMON FRASER
• Simon Fraser opened the spring at the CSUSB Coyote Classic at the Canyon Crest Country Club in Riverside, California. The Clan finished in sixth place with a score of 899.

• The Clan was highlighted by an individual victory by senior Scott Kerr with a score of 3-over-par 216. Kerr finished tied for first with Cal State San Marcos’ Justin Vrzich after three rounds but earned medalist honors in a six-hole playoff to earn the first GNAC Men’s Golf Player of the Week award of the spring.

• Freshman Michael Crisologo helped Kerr to lead the Clan as he finished tied for sixth place with a score of 8-over-par 221. Crisologo shot a low of 1-over-par 72 in the second round.

• Sophomore Aidan Goodfellow also impressed, finishing tied for 27th place at 226.

• Up next, the Clan will head to Livermore, California to compete at the NDNU Invitational on March 9-10.

WESTERN WASHINGTON
• Western Washington finished in 8th place at the CSUSB Coyote Classic with a score of 907 then finished in sixth place at the Bay Area Invitational with a score of 890 to start the spring season.

• Junior Brody Bonfilio and senior Ethan Casto led the Vikings at the Coyote Classic as the two were among five players tied for 10th place with scores of 9-over-par 222. Bonfilio found his stroke after the first round to score a 2-over-par 73 in each of the final two rounds. Casto struggled in the first round with a score of 9-over-par 80 but a second-round score of three-under-par 68 brought him right back into the mix.

• Sophomore Jordan Lee just missed the top-20 at the Coyote Classic. He finished tied for 21st place with a score of 225.

• Casto paced the Vikings again at the Bay Area Invitational as he finished tied for sixth place with a score of 3-over-par 219. Bonfilio and Lee also impressed as they tied for 22nd place with scores of 7-over-par 223.

• Up next, the Vikings will head back to California for the third time this spring to compete at the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational, hosted by Stanislaus State in Turlock on March 30-31.
