KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) has honored 19 GNAC men’s basketball student-athletes and three teams in its annual academic awards program.

The 19 student-athletes from five of the conference’s programs were selected to the NABC Honors Court. Alaska Anchorage landed eight selections and was one of just 15 programs across all college divisions to have eight or more individuals honored. Western Washington had four players selected, followed by Alaska and Saint Martin’s with three honorees and Seattle Pacific with one honoree.

Among the 19 are repeat Honors Court selections for Alaska senior Alex Sommerfield, Alaska Anchorage seniors David Riley and junior Keegan Crosby and Western Washington junior RJ Secrest.

Nominees to the NABC Honors Court must be of junior academic standing or greater, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher, must have been at the nominating institution for at least one year and must be a member of an NCAA or NAIA program with an NABC member coach.

In addition to the individual honorees, Alaska Anchorage, Saint Martin’s and Seattle Pacific were honored with the NABC’s Team Academic Award. Teams selected for the program must achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or greater for the previous season. Grade point averages for all student-athletes on the roster must be counted.

Saint Martin’s and Seattle Pacific were among the GNAC programs that competed during the COVID-19-shortened 2020-21 season. The Falcons finished with a 10-3 record while the Saints finished with a 2-10 mark. Alaska Anchorage elected not to participate in the season.
