Men's Basketball: GNAC Suspends UAA Coach

Monday, January 7, 2013

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Great Northwest Athletic Conference has suspended University of Alaska Anchorage men’s basketball coach Rusty Osborne for one game for unsportsmanlike actions in last Saturday’s game at Central Washington, commissioner Dave Haglund announced.

Osborne was ejected from the contest late in the second half. Following the ejection, he went on to the court to confront an official.

Osborne will sit out Thursday night’s home game vs. Western Oregon.

“Coach’s Osborne’s actions are unacceptable and in violation of GNAC bylaws, which clearly address sportsmanship and behavior toward game officials,” said Haglund.

Said Dr. Steve Cobb, UAA athletic director: “UAA fully supports the decision of the GNAC and will take the necessary corrective action to ensure this does not happen again.”
